September 12th Letter

Hello,

I am super excited for this week. I will admit I have a tendency to
pick favorites, which I know is not the best thing to do. There
should be some good things happening here. I want to start by telling
a story, we have an investigator who really wants to get baptized, we
started teaching them and did not quite reach the law of chastity in
time.. We got to her house and her Mom said some guy came and picked
her up, and they were a couple mountains away. We were hoping that it
was nothing too serious, maybe a date or something.. But thats not
exactly what it was. We saw her a few days later, and she alloped and
it was not a real wedding, no license, they just basically said, hey
wqe are married now. So we talked to her a little bit, and than she
said, well.. Elders, I am probably pregnant by now. We were like
noooooooo! There were a lot more o's in our no's but I dont want to
make you all magulo. Anyways, we were bummed a little bit, and are
going to help them get married, but they do not have birth
certificates so it might be a while. We were shaking it off, and ended
up talking to our new friend Kong, we had never taught him before, but
he made us feel better about our prediciment. Kong is a stud, he does
not know how to read or write, so we are going to start teaching him
in a couple days, along with a group of kids who are not gonig to
school. We taught him about prayer, and we ended our lesson, he looked
at us, and said, Elders, the truth is, I just really want to get
baptized. Than we were like.. "Yessssssssss" except with more S's than
o's (in the no) We were about to start dancing, but it was Sunday and
we refrained. We are trying to get a good amount of people baptized in
Tumarbong, so we can keep it open for church. We currently have two
who I believe will be baptized in October, and a potential for 6 more
who are not really sure yet. It is going to hopefully be a very
successful month.

Also, I heard that some people thought I was being very good and
patient with the Pastors in the area, we did lose quite a few
investigators to them, but I read a scripture earlier today that made
me feel a little bit better in Jeremiah:

1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my
pasture! saith the Lord.

Jeremiah lays down the hammer on the Pastors and not in this one
verse. It made me laugh, I am not going to use it against them because
I am not much of a Bible basher.

We are working with some of our new converts to get them out and
experiencing being a missionary, Jolly Binas really likes working, and
is a stud. All is going well, and he has a lot of friends he is trying
to introduce to the church.

On the darker side of things, while we were emailing last week someone
got shot and killed one street down. I am guessing it does not
normally happen. And I am not sure why.

I guess I can give you a little bit of a hint into who Brother
Belmonte is, if you would really like to know. His name is Jose, and
has been taught by the missionaries for 22 years, which is a while, if
you ask me. He has been taught by every missionary that has been
assigned in this area, and is always referred by the branch. He lives
right next to the church and always seems to be busy doing things. He
is a nice guy, but he always gets distracted and tells crazy stories
during lessons. We got him to church the last two weeks. We picked him
up the first week, the second a couple members went over and got him.
We are going to pick him up until he starts coming on his own, even if
it is ever week that I am here. He has a couple problems with smoking
and drinking, which we are going to take care of in the next few
weeks. We are aiming to have him iwasan those things by the 15th of
October.

Well, thats about all :) It has been a good week, but it will be
better this week. It is so crazy how fast time goes. Thanks to
everyone who rights me :) I got Sister Tryon's letter from July last
week, it takes a little while for letters to get here haha, but I
should hopefully receive letters again on the 20th, which is pretty
close. :)

Love you all!

Elder Munk

Also Pono! Have you gotten your mission call yet? When, where? Or are
you engaged instead? :) Let me know!
